Challenge

Low-income earners and target savers face challenges in saving money through contribution schemes due to the lack of security, convenience, and flexibility. How can we design a solution that simplifies the contribution process, protects the savings from theft or loss, and allows the savers to adjust their saving goals and plans according to their changing needs and circumstances?

Process

Empathize - Define problem and goals - Discover needs - Design solutions - Deploy and test

Define

Problem

People often get scammed from trying to contribute money with other people so as to get a huge sum quickly for important needs.

Solution

An innovative application enabling individuals to participate in a secure contribution network, offering a safe and effortless means to systematically save for their aspirations and objectives.

Why does it matter?

A demographic survey of sub-Saharan Africa
UX Research

As a UX researcher, I created a plan that included user interviews, an analysis of alternative methods, and a competitive audit. The main objective is to comprehend the difficulties potential users encounter, as well as their pain points, goals, and needs.

Survey

I conducted a survey with a sample of current and potential users of the product to gather insights into their attitudes, preferences, and behaviors related to the problem and the solution.

💡 The goal is to understand the pain points, how potential users go about saving, and for what purpose.

Classifying users

Discovered some user types

  1. Users who target/goal as to why they save
  2. Users who save by contributions
  3. Users who save via banking and savings apps

Highlights noted

  • People have been greatly impacted by contributions.
  • People are scared of losing money to people they don’t know.
  • Users want a safe way to save, contribute, and get their money back.
  • Users want to contribute so they can get more capital for urgent needs.

Research Synthesis

Empathy mapping

I used empathy mapping to highlight significant research findings for all user types and aid decision-making. I prioritized focus points and identified the most crucial takeaways because they improved my understanding of the users through inferences drawn from their behaviors.

Empathy map

Top takeaways

While each user type had different pain points, needs, and goals, it was evident what the takeaways are:

  1. Users want to get their money as easily as possible
  2. Users want to control how they get the money and how they get to make use of it.
  3. Having one way to go about getting the funds sent to them.
